John Alexander Griswold was born in Morrow county, Ohio, Feb. 27, 1861. In the spring of 1863, he came with his parents to Madison county, Iowa, where he resided until his death, with the exception of eight years spent in Smith county, Kansas, where he occupied several positions which showed the esteem in which he was held.

He died at the parental home in Madison county, Iowa, after a lingering illness of many months.

He was an earnest and zealous member of Earlham lodge I.O.O.F., the principles of which order he faithfully espoused.

During his long period of illness, he was a great sufferer, but endured his afflictions with great patience, and when he realized he could not get well, he was fully resigned to the will of “Him that doeth all things well.”

He leaves a mother, sister, four brothers and a host of friends who mourn his death.
