LARRY WELCH, WINTERSET

Larry M. Welch, 66, of Winterset died Oct. 12, 2009, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Mass of Christian Burial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with Father Chris Hartshorn officiating. Visitation will be from 4–7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at St. Joseph with the family receiving friends from 5–7 p.m. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Stuart. Memorials given to the family will be directed to Middle River Hospice or Mercy Hospice-Johnston. Funeral arrangements were handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.

Larry Welch was born Dec. 19, 1942, in Greenfield to A.E. “John” and Lois Eve (Mease) Welch and was a 1961 graduate of Winterset High School. His marriage to Nancy Eleanor Brunsmann took place Nov. 27, 1965, at All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart. Larry had been a resident of Earlham and then Winterset for the past 30 years. He had been a cross country semi truck driver. He was a member of American Legion Post 184 of Winterset and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Larry also served in the Iowa Army National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Winterset; one son, Richard Welch of Winterset; one daughter, Kimberly Welch of Olathe, Kan.; a brother, Paul Welch of Winterset; and a sister, Nancy Breitkreutz of Ankeny.

LARRY M. WELCH, Winterset

Larry M. Welch, 66, of Winterset, died Monday, October 12, 2009 at Mercy Hospice - Johnston in Johnston. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Stuart, Iowa.

Larry was born on December 19, 1942, at Greenfield, Iowa. He was married to Nancy Eleanor Brunsmann at All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart and had been a resident of Earlham and then of Winterset for the past 30 years. Larry was a semi-truck driver, driving across the country and was a member of the American Legion Post #184 of Winterset and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Larry was a 1961 graduate of Winterset High School had served in the Iowa Army National Guard. Larry described himself as a "jack of all trades and a master of none".

Larry is survived by his wife, Nancy E. Welch of Winterset; son, Richard Welch of Winterset; daughter, Kimberly Welch of Olathe, Kansas; brother, Paul (Joan) Welch of Winterset; and sister, Nancy (Lee) Breitkreutz of Ankeny. He was preceded in death by his parents, A. E. "John" and Lois Eve (Mease) Welch.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Following visitation will be a vigil service at 7 p.m. Memorials given to the family will be directed to Middle River Hospice or Mercy Hospice-Johnston.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by McCalley - Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
