Death of C. C. Shults

C. C. Shults died at his home in this city Sunday. He had been failing for some time and his death was not unexpected. Mr. Shults was formerly the landlord of the City hotel, and at different times in his life had secured patents on different articles of his own invention, some of which he would have realized a handsome sum, had he disposed of them at the right time.

C. C. Shults, the well known liveryman and hotel keeper, died at his home in Winterset on Sunday of heart disease. Mr. Shults had been an invalid for the past three years and his death was not unexpected.

He came to Winterset with his family in 1880 and has resided here ever since, either engaged in the livery business or running a hotel. He built the new addition to the city hotel and made it the popular house it is today.

For two or three years he resided in Union township, living on a farm. He was the inventor of several harness improvements and two or three whiffle tree and single tree hooks. He would have been 70 years old next July.

His son, Frank Shults, and his daughter, Mrs. Frank Hyskell, of Lorimor are his only children living. Mr. Shults has many friends in the city, and his death is a severe blow to a large circle of acquaintances throughout the county. The funeral occurred at the residence on Wednesday afternoon.
