Eliza Ellen Hobson was born in Madison county, Iowa, April 4th, 1865 and lived here all her life. She was converted and joined the M.E. Church about 17 years ago at Bethel Church, Scott township. About this time her eyesight failed so she was unable to read. Yet, she kept up her Sunday school and church work faithfully. She was president of the Junior Epworth League and in this capacity was the means of bringing cheer and comfort to many homes where sorrow and affliction had come. She also served as president of the Mercy and Help Dept. of the Epworth League.
She had been an invalid since April 1898 and had suffered terribly, bearing her sufferings with patience and resignation. The end came Thursday, July 11th and was a peaceful one. The bereaved family feel that she has gone where she beholds the “King in his beauty” in “the land that is far away.”
The funeral occurred Saturday July 13th at the M.E. church conducted by Rev. C. J. English assisted by Rev. Jacobs and E. R. Zeller. She was laid to rest beside her mother and brother George, in the Winterset cemetery. The pallbearers were young ladies, member of the Epworth League and her Sunday school class. She rests in hope of a glorious resurrection.
