Hugh Stewart was born in Canada Nov. 20th, 1832 where he lived with his parents until the age of twelve years and moved with them to Winnebago county, Ill. In the year of 1844 and in the year of 1855 was married to Mary Maine. Nine children were born to them two daughters and seven sons. The wife and eight children, one brother and one sister survive him, to mourn the loss of a kind husband, a loving father and most affectionate brother who was always ready with a kind word and a pleasant smile to cheer and comfort those around him.
He moved with his family in 1878 to Polk Co. Iowa and then Madison Co. in 1896, where he lived unto his death which occurred July 5th, 1901, aged 68 years 6 months 16 days.
