Page 8Sad and Sudden Death
Miss Pearl Newton, of Lincoln township, one of the promising teachers in the public schools, died very suddenly yesterday as a result of blood poisoning. She attended the last regular examination June 1 and expected to attend the normal. After going home from the examination she became ill with some form of throat trouble. This brought on an ulceration from which blood poisoning resulted.
The funeral was held this afternoon at the church in the Macumber neighborhood, the interment being in the Winterset cemetery.

Miss Pearl Newton aged 22 years died at the home of her parents in Lincoln township Wednesday, May 12th (typed as printed) and was buried in the Winterset cemetery Thursday. The funeral services were held at the Maccumber church conducted by Rev. Folansbee.
Miss Newton was one of Madison county’s successful school teachers, having taught five terms. She was in attendance at the teachers examination Saturday June 1st, and on her return home was taken sick with some throat trouble which resulted in blood poison and her death.

Miss Pearl Newton died at her home in Lincoln township on Wednesday, aged 22 years. She had taught five terms of school and was considered by the county superintendent as one of Madison county’s most promising teachers. Last Saturday she passed examination for a renewal of certificate. Returning home she was taken with a severe throat trouble, resulting in blood poison which terminated her life.
At her request, Rev. L. E. Follansbee preached her funeral sermon at the Macumber church and her remains were brought to Winterset for interment on Thursday afternoon.
