St. CharlesOn last Monday Delta Carpenter, a young man about 24 years of age, died of dropsy of the heart at the home of his parents, a few miles southeast of St. Charles. Although his health had not been good for some years, he was able to be around and attend to business until less than 24 hours before his death. He was an excellent young man—an intelligent, industrious and dutiful son. His death is a sore loss to his parents, who were dependent on him to manage the farm and business.
His father is almost helpless by reason of the loss of one limb, the result of a severe wound received in action while serving as a sergeant of Co. K., 10th Iowa Infantry. Interment in the St. Charles cemetery on Wednesday. Sympathy for the bereaved is in no wise withheld.
