Richard E. Allen, a longtime resident of the St. Charles area, died at Madison Manor South here last Friday, September 13, 1974. He was 87 years of age.
Richard Earl Allen was born at Broken Bow, Neb. On January 20, 1887, the son of Andrew and Arzella Bennett Allen. He came to Iowa at the age of 11 years.
Mr. Allen was married to Esther McMichael in Crawford Township on December 25, 1907.
A retired farmer, Mr. Allen was affiliated with the Methodist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Fay Schumacher of St. Charles and Mary Povich of Denver, Colo; and by three sons, Glenn Allen of Winterset, Ernest Allen of Grimes and Robert Allen of Martensdale. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, as well as one sister, Pearl Wing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and by three brothers.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, September 16 at the Collins Funeral Home with the Dr. Paul Hann presiding. Burial was in the Montpelier Cemetery at Patterson.
