Irvin Simmons Died Saturday

Funeral services were held this Tuesday for J. Irvin Simmons of Winterset, who died at his home here last Saturday, September 14, 1974. He was 79 years of age.

John Irvin Simmons was born at Peru on April 27, 1895, the son of Robert and Lillie James Simmons. He was married to Elsie Gladys Robinson at Winterset on November 5, 1922.

Mr. Simmons, a lifetime resident of this county, had retired from farming in April of this year, when he moved to Winterset. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Simmons was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Winterset, and was deacon of the church for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys, and a daughter, Mrs. Nelson (Miriam) Howell of Winterset. Also surviving are one grandson; two sisters: Madge Nichols of Winterset and Lillian Moorman of Minong, Wis.; and a brother, Lawrence Simmons of Peru.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 17 at the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, with Pastor Lester Jones officiating. Burial was in the Peru Cemetery.
