Sadie Carrie Hawn was born at Albia, Monroe county, Iowa, September 17, 1874, and passed away at Creston at 4:20 o’clock on Wednesday morning, November 17, 1915.
When two years of age, with her parents, she moved to Freeport, Ill, where she resided until coming to Iowa in 1904.
On Oct. 4, 1906, she was united in marriage to Ransom A. Ballard of Macksburg, Iowa. For about two years her health had gradually failed and about four months ago, she was suddenly taken worse and had been a constant sufferer since until death claimed her.
She joined the Methodist church when a girl and her sunny disposition and spirit of helpfulness endeared her to all who knew her. Always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need, she will be greatly missed in her home circle.
Besides her husband and parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Hawn, she leaves to mourn their loss one brother and four sisters. They are: Frank Hawn of Spencer, Iowa; Mrs. Nellie Meisner of Blairstown, Nebr., Mrs. Lillian Wilke, Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Lucy Carpenter of Freeport, Ill., and Mrs. Ella Saxton of Macksburg, Iowa, beside other relatives and a host of friends.
After brief services at the home, funeral services were held at 1 o’clock Friday, November 19, 1915 at the Methodist church in Macksburg, conducted by Rev. Whitney, who chose for his text the 22nd verse of the 16th chapter of Job: “When a few years are come, then shall I go the way whence I shall not return.”
Interment was made in the Moon cemetery 1½ miles south of Macksburg. The bereaved have the sympathy of the entire community.
