James Moore, son of Richard and Rebecca Moore, was born in Kindale County, Illinois, March 4, 1844 and died at his home near East Peru, Iowa on Nov. 18, 1915, after an illness of several months, aged 71 years, 9 months and 12 days.
On Dec. 31, 1869 he and Martha M Shearer were united in marriage. Eight children blessed this union, one girl dying at the age of 15 years. When a young man he came with his parents to Madison County, Iowa, in 1866, where he has since resided. He was an honest man, a good neighbor, a kind husband and his children can truthfully say he was a most loving father and showed their affection by their tender care of him in his last illness.
The funeral was held at the home, conducted by Rev. Milholland of the Christian church and he was laid to rest in the Peru cemetery.
