John Coleman Found Dead on the Sidewalk Wednesday Morning
Early Wednesday morning the dead body of John Coleman, a tramp cigar maker and painter was found lying on the sidewalk one-half block north of the St. Nicholas Hotel.
The deceased come to the city some six or eight weeks ago and has been working off and on for the Bobbitt Cigar Manufactory. While here he as painted several pictures which shows the work of an artist. He was a graduate of the Ann Arbor Mich. College and at one time ran a portrait studio at Albany, New York.
He has a sister living at Bay City Michigan, who was telegraphed and replied that they had no money to defray the expenses of bringing him home. The coroners jury has not returned their verdict, but in all probabilities his body will be sent to the state Board of Health.

Page 3Funeral of Jack Coleman
The coroner’s jury on the case of Jack Coleman who was found dead Wednesday morning of last week returned a verdict that the deceased came to his death through causes unknown to the jury.
W. H. Bobbett, the cigar-man, claimed the body as a friend and circulated a subscription to pay the funeral expenses. The funeral was held in the Labor Union Hall Friday and was conducted by Rev. Follansbee. The proprietors and workmen of Wilson & Clark’s marble shop will furnish a tombstone.
