Wednesday, December 18, 1968ROGER THOMPSON Killed on Formosa
Sgt. Roger Thompson of Winterset was fatally injured this Monday in a traffic accident on the island of Formosa, where he was stationed as a member of the U.S. Air force. His parents, Mr. and Mrs Theodore J. Thompson of Winterset, received word that same day.
Sergeant Thompson, who was 23 years of age, had been a member of the armed forces for about three years. He was a native of Creston, where he was born Feb. 26, 1945. He came with his parents to Winterset when he was of high school age, and graduated from Winterset High school with the class of 1963. He attended Simpson college at Indianola for two years before entering military service.
Mr. and Mrs. Thompson were advised that their son was riding a motorcycle, which was involved in a collision with a truck, resulting in the fatal injury.
In addition to his parents, he leaves two brothers, Sgt. Ronald Thompson, who is serving in the U.S. Air Force at Topeka, Kan., and Hal Thompson, a senior student at Winterset High school.
