Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock occurred the death of Jno. Holbrook, one of Winterset’s oldest residents. The deceased was born in Virginia in 1825. He was married in Indiana in 1846 and came to Winterset in 1858, where he has since resided. He had been in failing health for several years and the death of his son Frank in Kansas, which occurred in the early summer affected his mind. He was taken to the asylum at Clarinda but as there was no hope for his recovery and his physical health was rapidly failing he was brought home a few weeks ago. His death had been almost daily expected which lessens the shock though not the sadness of the blow to the family. The funeral services were conducted at 3 o’clock, this afternoon at the residence of Harry Holbrook, the younger son of the deceased. Rev. C. J. English officiated.
Mr. Holbrook was on of Winterset’s “old-timers” and had a wide acquaintance and many friends all over the county who will regret his death though he had passed his 3-score and 10 by several years.
His aged wife and two sons, William and Harry survive him and to them the sympathy of the community is extended.

John Holbrook, one of the oldest citizens of Winterset, died at his home in the south part of the city Wednesday morning. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon.
Mr. Holbrook came to Winterset in the fifties and has lived in the house in which he died ever since the writer can remember. He was a kind, genial man and had not an enemy in the world.. He was a great lover of horses and his death was indirectly due to injuries received while driving a vicious horse, several years ago.
