Clarence Franklin Simpson was born May 10th, 1885, died July 11th, 1900, aged 15 years, 2 months and 1 day.
He with his father and younger brother went on Monday morning to the Alex Macumber farm, near Barney, where they were expecting to work through the hay harvest. On Tuesday, about 11:30, the men were attempting to raise the derrick from the side, and in some way it overbalanced and swung around, striking him on the left side and back, injuring him internally, causing his death in about twenty-five hours. Medical aid was summoned but nothing could be done only relieve his suffering a very little. He was taken to the home of John Petty, who lives on the Macumber farm, and died at 1 p.m., Wednesday. He was then removed to his home in Monroe township, (Jerome Simpson’s).
Funeral services were held on Thursday, at 1p.m., by Rev. C. W. Hoover. Text selected from Job “If a man die, shall he live again?”
The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends who mourn with the bereaved family. His mother died about seven years ago. His father and one brother survive him. The remains were laid to rest in the Barney cemetery.
