Death of Douglas Debord.

At 10:30 o’clock last Saturday morning, April 21st, all that was mortal of Douglas Debord passed away.

The deceased had for a long time been suffering with Bright’s disease and for the past three months has been confined to the house most of the time. A few weeks ago the disease got such a firm hold upon him that he was compelled to remain in his bed.

Mr. Debord was favorably known in this city and county. For the past three years he acted in the capacity of deputy county auditor, and proved himself an efficient and obliging official. Previous to becoming a resident of this city he was a merchant doing business at Patterson, and was also postmaster of that place for a number of years.

Sunday afternoon the remains were taken to Patterson escorted by a large number of M.W. of A. of that place, he being a member of the Patterson camp.

The funeral services were conducted at the M.E. church of Patterson by the lodge to which he belonged, Rev. Dr. English pronouncing the last sad rites. His remains were interred in the McGinnis burying grounds, followed to their last resting place by a very large concourse of relatives and friends.

Douglas Debord was born in Madison county, Iowa, February 7, 1858 and was 42 years, 2 months and 14 days old at the time of his death. His parents were Elijah and Zurilda Debord. His father died in 1862, his mother survives him, being now the wife of Rev. Tisdale of Patterson.

Douglas Debord and Rosilla Arnold were married April 17, 1880, and to them were born seven children, five of whom are still living. He and his wife united with the Methodist church at Patterson some seven years ago. He has always lived an honest, upright and consistent life and was honored and respected by all who knew him. He leaves a loving wife and family, devoted relatives and a host of true friends to mourn their loss.

Obituary Notice.

DIED—At his residence in Winterset, Iowa, on April 21st at 10:30 a.m., Douglas Debord in the forty-second year of his age.

Douglas Debord, son of Elijah and Zurilda Debord was born near Patterson, Iowa, February 7, 1858. Was married to Rosella Arnold April 17, 1880. Their marriage was blessed by seven children, five of whom are still living. Their oldest daughter, Bessie, died five years ago. A son, Albert, died in infancy.

For the past three years the deceased has filled the office of deputy auditor in this county, and a more faithful and obliging official never graced a public office. He was a true, loving husband, a kind, indulgent father and had the friendship and esteem of all who knew him. He had been in poor health for some time and was advised by his friends to take a rest from work, but he declined, saying he preferred to remain in his office in the fulfillment of his duty. A month previous to his death he was found to be suffering from Bight’s disease. He never rallied, though conscious most of the time.

Funeral services were held on Sunday at two p.m. at the Patterson church, of which the deceased was a member. Dr. English, of Winterset, preached the funeral sermon and the burial service was conducted by the Modern Woodmen of America, of which the deceased was a member.
