Creston, Ia 50801Robert “Bob” Eugene Eivins, 61, of Creston, died February 17, 2009, at Edinburg Regional Hospital in Edinburg, Texas.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Powers Funeral Home, junction of Highways 34 & 25 Creston. Pastor Delores Doench will officiate. Burial will be in the Moon Cemetery, south of Macksburg, with flag presentation by the Theodore J. Martens V.F.W. Post 1797. Open visitation will be 2 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, at the Powers Funeral Home. Memorials are to be established in his name. Bob Eivins, son of Jean Maxine (Peckham) and Harold Eugene Eivins, was born July 18, 1947, in Des Moines, Ia. He graduated from Creston High School in 1965. He served in the United States Air Force for four years. After Bob was discharged from the military, he moved to Denver, Colorado where he worked for the railroad and later for the Coors plant in quality control.
Bob moved again to St. Louis in 1972, where he drove an auto transport delivering Chrysler products for Casson’s Trucking Service. In 1986, he bought his grandfather Eivins’ farm in Macksburg and also drove a rock truck for a local quarry. In 1992, Bob moved to Creston and established and operated Hi Crest Express transporting grain and freight until he retired in 2006. After retirement, he began wintering in southern Texas. Bob had been a member of Theodore J. Martens V.F.W. Post # 1797 in Creston.
Bob is survived by a son, Brandon E. Eivins of West Des Moines; a brother Gail (wife Shari) Eivins of Cedar Rapids, Ia.; a sister Barb (husband Randy) Lee of Winterset, Ia. and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a great-nephew.
