West Des Moines

William "Bill" A. Wiedmann, 82, entered his eternal life on May 5, 2009 at Bickford Cottage in West Des Moines.

Funeral Services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1627 Grand Ave., West Des Moines with entombment to follow at Resthaven Mausoleum. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2009 at Sacred Heart Parish Center. There will be a Vigil service at 7 p.m.

Bill was born in Madison County, Iowa and lived in West Des Moines since 1950.

He was a member of the Iowa Chef's Association and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Bill gave of himself through his love of cooking. It was his true passion. He learned his craft at the Kirkwood Hotel, became chef at the Younker's Tea Room in 1951 and was named the director of all Younkers restaurants, bakeries and delicatessens in 1967. After leaving Younkers, his love of food continued through his catering events.

He enjoyed building and fixing things. He took pride in his vegetable garden. His true joy was in his sharing prized tomatoes. Every year, the family took a 3 week vacation in the camper. He dearly loved to travel and this was very important to him.

He will be missed by his children, Mike (Monika) of Heidesheim, Germany, Mark of Ames, IA and Melinda of West Des Moines, IA; daughters- in-law, Sue and Mary; grandchildren, Sharon "Jane" (Amy), Katie (Shaun), Ed; great-grandchildren, Shae, Holden, Quinn and Kieran; sisters, Catherine (Phil) McCrea of St. Mary's, IA, Irene Freuh of Winterset, IA and Dorothy Jeffries of Des Moines, IA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life, JoAnn Keating Wiedmann in 1998; parents, William and Gladys; granddaughter, Anna and brother, Paul.

Donations will be used according to the wishes of family for a memorial in Bill's name to be determined at a later date.

Bill lived his life as a Beautitudes Catholic.
