March 1897

Amanda Meeker, daughter of Oliver and Dorcas Meeker, was born in North Henderson township, July 14, 1865, and died at the home of Mr. George W. Reed, in Aledo, Saturday, March 13, 1897, aged 31 years and 8 months. She was united in marriage with Mr. Frank Wixson October 22, 1886, who with two little sons, Eddie and Oliver, remain to mourn the loss of an affectionate wife and mother. Besides the husband and sons she leaves a father, mother, three brothers and three sisters. Deceased had spent the greater part of her life in North Henderson township. Since her marriage she had lived in Iowa two years, and on a farm 7 miles south east of Aledo three years. She had been in poor health for about three years, and had only recently returned from Salt Lake City, Utah, where she had been taken in the hopes of benefiting her impaired health, but the tender ministrations of loving friends were of no avail and she passed into that sleep from which there is no awakening save in the other world.

The funeral services were held in the M. E. church, North Henderson, Monday at 10 a.m., conducted by Rev. Stocking, pastor of the Universalists church of Galesburg. The attendance of friends was very large. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near the village.
Those accompanying the remains from this city, besides the immediate relatives, were George Reed and daughter, Miss Lena; Mrs. Clarence Bowers, G. Litzenberger, Ira Brown, Henry Cullison, Peter F. Mauck and Alex Hughes.

Transcriber's note: The Wixons lived in Madison County for two years about 1891 - 1893.
