Margaret Louise Laire, 78, of Winterset and formerly of Red Oak, died March 26, 2009, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.
Memorial services were held Monday, March 30, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak with the Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Burial of the cremated remains was at Hillside Cemetery in Elliott. Memorials may be directed to Middle River Hospice in Winterset.
Margaret Laire was born Feb. 7, 1931, in Elliott to Forrest and Molly Marie (McVay) Abramson. She graduated from Elliott High School in 1948 and worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. Her marriage to Newell Laire took place Nov. 15, 1953, in Glenwood. They lived for most of their married life near Stennett. Margaret was a homemaker for many years and later worked for Montgomery County National Bank, which later became Firstar Bank from which she retired. She was a member of Stratton United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She had been a resident of Winterset for two years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two grandchildren, Candy and Carly; and three sisters, Bonnie Tye, Libby Tye and Wilma Taylor.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Raney of Winterset; two sons, Marshall Laire and Mark Laire, both of Van Meter; two sisters, Barbara Hansen of Ozark, Mo., and Alice Rife of Omaha, Neb.; and six grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.
