WAYNE GENTRY, NEBRASKA

Wayne W. Gentry, 79, of Omaha, Neb., died March 28, 2009, at Creighton University Medical Center where his body was donated to The Creighton University Research Hospital.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, at the Winterset First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

Wayne Gentry was born June 10, 1929, in Winterset to Alvin B. and Zola (Bruett) Gentry. He attended school in Patterson and upon graduation attended Simpson College, later transferring to Drake University where he obtained a degree in broadcasting. After college he married Marilyn Stevens. They moved to Sioux City where Wayne was a sports broadcaster for KTRI Radio Station. They later moved to Creston where he was a sales representative for Sinclair Oil Company, which led to his purchasing a Sinclair Service Station in Griswold. In later years, Wayne moved to Omaha and operated B & W Starters and Alternators. Wayne played semi-pro baseball for Patterson, Cumming and the Winterset Merchants. While living in Griswold, he was captain of the fire department, a longtime announcer for high school football games and was instrumental in building the Griswold Bowl.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Jo Ellen; and two sisters, Lorraine Lowden and Ardith Thraillkill.

He is survived by two sons, Bruce Gentry of Thurman and Brian Gentry of Emerson; one daughter, Lynn Reynolds of Stanton; and four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
