Obituary

Mrs. Elizabeth Gray, widow of Amos Gray, deceased, departed this life at the home of Theodore Armstrong in Union township, Saturday morning, February 24, 1906. Her maiden name was Swartswelter and she was born July 1, 1823. She was a native of Trumbull county, Ohio, and early in life she was converted and joined the M. E. church in Brookfield of that state.

She was married to Amos Gray January 18, 1844. With her husband and family she came to this county in 1865 where he home has been since then. There were three children, one of them a son who died nine years ago, the other two, daughters, Mrs. Cook of Winterset and Mrs. Theodore Armstrong of Union township remain to mourn the loss of a loved and loving mother.

On coming to this county, Mr. and Mrs. Gray united with the Methodist church of Winterset and both were faithful members till death.

The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. E. W. Curtis at the home of Theodore Armstrong Sunday the 25th and the burial took place at the Winterset cemetery.

Mrs. Gray, a pioneer resident of Madison county, died Friday night, February 24, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Theodore Armstrong, in Union township. She was well advanced in years and was in feeble health for some years.

The funeral was held Sunday forenoon from the Armstrong residence, and interment was in the Winterset cemetery.
