THE COUNTY AND CITY

The death of Emory Alexander, which had been expected for some time, occurred Thursday night last. He had been sick a long time and had been a great sufferer.

The funeral was on Saturday afternoon at the Baptist church, Rev. A. Jacobs officiating, and was largely attended.

Emory was born in Van Buren county, Iowa, in 1856. He met with a serious accident in childhood which was a great affliction through life and to some extent impaired his natural gifts, but he made a far better use of the abilities he possessed than many who were more favored.

He had many excellent traits of character, shunned all vicious acts and associations, and was always to be found on the side of right, morality and good citizenship as he understood it. Should his epitaph be written it would fairly cover more good points than that of many a man with greater endowments and opportunities.
