Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Reed, of Union township, have suffered a sore bereavement in the loss of their little boy, who died on Saturday evening.

Mr. Reed, who lives on the old Garlinger farm, was husking corn and the little boy, James Roy, was with his father. The little fellow picked up a grain of corn and in trying to swallow it, it lodged in the windpipe.

A telephone message was sent for a physician and an operation performed, but in spite of human aid he died in a short time.

The little fellow, who was past 3 years, was one of a pair of twin boys and an unusually possessing child, the idol of his parents and a favorite with the people of that neighborhood. No keener sorrow can ever befall a family, than that experienced by the loss of this little one, and in their bereavement Mr. and Mrs. Reed have the sympathy of the entire community.

The funeral services were held on Tuesday conducted by Rev. W. W. Williams, and the interment made in Fairview cemetery in Madison township.

Sad Death of a Child

A most sad affair occurred in the home of J. W. Reed, of Union township, last Saturday, by the death of his little three and one-half year old son Roy, by choking. He was playing with some shelled corn, throwing grains of it into his mouth when one passed into the windpipe. The immediate serious condition of the child made it necessary to send for a physician, and on the arrival of Drs. Thompson and Davisson, it was discovered that the kernel of corn had passed into the lung. A hurried consultation was held and it was decided the only thing to do, was a surgical operation, to endeavor to extricate the foreign substance. This was done but with fatal results as the child died soon thereafter. All was done that could possible be done by the doctors, but the peculiar and rapid development of the case left no chance for relief.
