J. C. Diggs who has been sick sometime, died at his home south of town Friday afternoon. Funeral services were held at the house this afternoon at 2 o’clock, after which was laid to rest in the Earlham cemetery.

Joseph C. Diggs, son of Wm. and Charlotte May Diggs, was born near Winchester, Randolph County, Ind., December 21, 1827, and died May 5, 1899 at his home near Earlham, Madison county, Iowa, aged 71 years, 4 months and 14 days.

Deceased was married to Abigail Peacock November 7, 1850. To them was born five children, all of whom were at his bedside when the summons came to him. Three brothers and one sister survive him, two of his brothers being with him at the time of his death.

Brother Diggs had a birthright in the Quaker church and has lived continuously through life in that faith, and passed peacefully to the beyond, leaving many evidences of a glorious future. He was interred in the Earlham cemetery Sabbath afternoon, followed by a large concourse of people.
