On Tuesday morning at an early hour, Grandma McCandlass, who has so long and patiently awaited the coming of the end, passed quietly away in the presence of her devoted friends. Her condition has been reported in these items at times since it became apparent that her life was fast ebbing away. The attached was prepared and placed in the hands of Rev. Duncan who published it at the close of the funeral sermon:
The deceased was born near New Castle, Mercer county, Pennsylvania, on November 4, 1818. She was married June 26, 1838 to John McCandlass, about which time or very soon after, her husband and herself united with the church that afterward became a part of the United Presbyterian organization, and during their entire lives remained steadfast and worthy.
To this worthy couple were born ten children of whom two sons and four daughters survive. In September 1865 they removed to Madison county, Iowa, making their final home in St. Charles. On January 31, 1897 the husband died and his remains rest in the cemetery beside the grave prepared for his wife. Christian lives well rounded out with good deeds prepared this noble couple for the full enjoyment which must be their portion.
