Death of Aaron Hiatt

Aaron Hiatt of Walnut township, died last week at Granada, Colo. where his was temporarily residing with his son, Leslie P. Hiatt.

His death marks the removal of another pioneer settler of Madison county. To them the younger generation owe a debt of gratitude few but the pioneers themselves realize the extent of the privations and hardships experienced by the early settlers in the early settlement and development of the county. Mr. Hiatt settled in Walnut township in the early 1850's. In 1852 he laid out the town of Peru on what was then part of his farm. He was one of the organizers of the Peru Christian Church and was ever active in the welfare of the community. He was one of the original subscribers of the Madisonian and had taken every issue of that paper since its establishment in 1856.
