Boyd Forbes was born at Cadiz, Ohio, March 13, 1826; and died November 27, 1904 at 8:30 a.m. and we have every confidence that his life went out from the Sabbath morning of earth to the eternal rest, joy and bliss of the Sabbath morning of heaven. He had reached the good old age of 75 years, 8 months and 14 days, full of days that were an honor and a crown upon his life, for it was a life lived for God.

His early years were spent near the place of his birth in Harrison county, O., and there in early manhood he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Adams, in the year 1853. In the fall of 1856 he came with his family to McLean county, Ill. and settled on a farm, where he lived till March 1892, when he came to Winterset. Since that time he has been an honored and respected resident of this city.

His family consisted of two sons and two daughters. The mother passed to the eternal home on March 5th 1893, and one daughter, Mrs. John A. Webb followed her on December 30, 1896.

Mr. Forbes was united in marriage again to Miss Hannah Martlatt, December 19, 1900, who, with one sister and one brother survive him.

Mr. Forbes has been an example in upright christian character and in faithful pains taking devotion to the church of his redeemer. What nobler, grander monument can any man build for himself ? He began the christian life early uniting with the church at Cadiz, O., in his young manhood. Shortly after he came to Winterset, he was elected a ruling elder in the church in which office he served efficiently till God called him to a higher service. He has been a man of large usefulness in the church, not only in his home congregation but he has represented the church often in the meetings of Presbytery, the Synod and General Assembly. His record for faithful attention to his duties and obligations of church membership has been remarkable. In nearly 13 years of connection with this congregation he has not missed more than a dozen church services. And that means not only preaching service Sabbath mornings and evenings but Sabbath school and prayer meetings. He wore a silver badge of faithfulness in the Sunday school, his records on the books are a solid line of credit across the pages every quarter. He was a man of prayer. He was a man who aspired to success for the church.
