Mrs. B. N. Clark, daughter of John and Rebecca Getchell, was born in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, January 16, 1849, and died at her home in Jefferson township, March 8, 1899.
She moved with her parents to Madison county, Iowa, in the year 1854, married B. N. Clark September 7, 1878. To them were born five children. Ivor 19 years of age; Charles, George (deceased), Thurman, and Bessie, the youngest, a bright little girl of 8 years.
Mrs. Clark joined the United Brethren church, 8 miles northeast of Winterset, 8 years ago. She was loved and respected by all who knew her. Her life was that of an exemplary Christian and as such she left evidence. She had been a great sufferer—at times—for years, and had apparently regained her health. Three weeks before her death she was in Winterset, talked with her brother, D. K. Getchell, and seemed unusually well. Upon her arrival home that night she was taken with a severe chill and la grippe, and rapidly grew worse until the end came.
The funeral service was conducted by her pastor, Rev. Hicks, and Rev. Follansbee, of Winterset. Rev. Follansbee delivering the discourse from the selected text: “She is not Dead, but Sleepeth.” Her remains were laid to rest in the McDonald cemetery, surrounded by a large company of friends.
