Earlham, IowaSabron Lancaster Reynolds, a resident of Earlham from 1951 to 1965, died April 17, 1986 at the Mayflower Home, Grinnell, Iowa where she had received nursing care since suffering a stroke in April 1985. She was the wife of L. Willard Reynolds, pastor of the Earlham Friends Church. During her 14 years in Earlham, she was active in the activities of the Friends church and United Society of Friends Women and directed Vacation Bible School. She also belonged to the Sorosis Society and a community book club and worked to help establish the Earlham Care Program. For the Iowa Yearly Meeting sessions in Oskaloosa, she organized and directed the Junior Yearly Meeting in 1954 and 1955 and book sales in the early 1960’s.
She was born in 1894 near Bangor, Iowa, where the Lancasters had been pioneer settlers. She received her early education in the local one-room school, graduated from the New Providence Academy in 1911 and received her B.A. from Penn College in 1920.
Willard Reynolds first pastorate was at the Lynnville, Iowa, Friends Church, followed by four years at West Branch, Iowa. They also served Friends Churches in New York State and Indiana and after retirement interim pastorates in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Denver, Colorado and with the Newberg and Chester United Church congregations near Grinnell.
She is survived by her husband, of the Mayflower Home, Grinnell, Iowa; a daughter, Sabron R. Newton (Mrs. Robert) of Chicago, Illinois; two grandchildren, Miriam and Benjamin Newton, and by nieces and nephews in several states.
A memorial service is planned for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 1986 at the First Friends Church, Grinnell. Interment of the ashes will follow at the Bangor Friends Cemetery that afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
