Thursday, April 3, 1986Lawrence Wayne Stanley, or “Bud” as he was known, son of Charles A. and Margaret Stanley, was born February 28, 1912 in rural Earlham, Iowa and passed away March 24, 1986 at the Perry Manor in Perry, Iowa. Wayne attended Earlham High School. He was united in marriage to Goldie Estel in 1933 and to this union was born two children, Betty Jean and Charles Melvin.
Wayne farmed most of his life in the Earlham area and was well known for his sheep shearing which he enjoyed demonstrating at local fairs. He worked 15 years for Concrete Materials Co. at the Earlham Rock Quarry. Along with his love for the farm and animals he enjoyed sharing favored verses and rhymes with his grandchildren.
Wayne, the youngest of 16 children, is survived by his two children, Betty Jean Bird of Effingham, Illinois and Charles Stanley of Pensacola, Florida; two sisters, Leah Cook of rural Earlham, Iowa and Helen Hougham of Adel, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Janet, Jackie and Julie Bird, Jeanne McClain, Randy, Bill and Mike Stanley and Theresa Barrow, and one great grandchild, Emilee McClain.
Funeral services were held March 27, 1986 at the Church of Christ, Earlham, Iowa, with Pastor Earl Menning officiating. Linda Applegate provided organ music. Pallbearers were Ralph Stanley, Jr., Glen Stanley, Wayne Cook, Dale Stanley, John Brown and Roy Jerome. Interment was in Earlham Cemetery, Earlham, Iowa.
