Thursday, August 22, 1985Herman P. Schafer, son of Charles S. and Anna S. Clausen Schafer, was born October 12, 1900 and passed away August 14, 1985 at the Luther Park Health Center in Des Moines, Iowa of cancer.
Herman was united in marriage to Frieda M. Thomsen, of Earlham, on February 14, 1925 and to this union two children were born, Marvin and Pauline. He was a lifelong resident of the Dexter-Earlham communities.
His primary occupation was farming and he also was a partner with his son, Marvin, in the operation of the Earlham International Harvester dealership during the 1950’s. Herman also was a lifetime member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda; his parents; two sisters and two brothers. His survivors include a daughter, Pauline Dowd, of Des Moines, a son, Marvin, of Mission, Texas, one brother, Peter, of Dexter, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted from Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter, Iowa on August 17, 1985, with Pastor David Rempfer officiating. Helen Clausen provided organ music. Pallbearers were Larry Ory, Harold Jensen, Fred Fellman, Jr., Charles Mitchell, Charles Schafer and Eugene Schafer. Interment was in Dexter Cemetery, Dexter, Iowa.
