Louise Showers, Winterset

Louise Showers, 87, died Jan. 15, 2009, at Winterset Care Center South.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Calvary Baptist Church in St. Charles with Pastor Doug Helton officiating. Burial was at Peru Cemetery. Contributions may be directed to the Calvary Baptist Church Youth Program. Funeral arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Homes of Osceola and Truro.

Louise Showers was born Dec. 3, 1921, in Madison County to Leonard A. and Versa Relda (Hiatt) Hamand. She was educated in the Peru School District, graduating from Peru High School. Her marriage to Frank Gale Showers took place Sept. 12, 1942, in Yakima, Wash. Besides working with her husband on the farm, Louise was employed by J.C. Penney Department Store and Younkers Tea Room, both in Des Moines. While at Care Center South, Louise was a member of the Red Hat Society and attended Bible studies.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Velma Williams and Esther Brown; and a brother, Leo Hamand.

She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Johnson of St. Charles; a sister, Reba Thompson of Mitchellville; and three granddaughters.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, at Calvary Baptist Church in St. Charles. Visitation will open at noon Monday at Kale funeral Home in Truro with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at Peru Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley (Mike) Johnson of St. Charles; and sister, Reba (Rex) Thompson of Mitchellville.

Memorials may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church Youth Program.
