June 1971Lana Olive Burton was born August 11, 1905 to Ernest and Gertrude Burton of Madison County, Missouri, the fourth child of a family of eight. She passed away at the age of 65 years, 10 months and 13 days, on the 24th day of June, at the Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines.
She was united in marriage to Merritt S. Moore of Jamesport, Missouri December 15, 1926. To this union were born four children: Mrs. Imogene Kasal of Earlham, Ivan D. Moore of Twin Lakes, Iowa, Mrs. Twila Compton of Portage, Michigan, and Dale B. Moore of Solon, Iowa.
Lana lived in Grundy County, Missouri until 1941, then moved to Burlington, Iowa. She has lived in the Earlham community for the last 24 years.
She joined the Methodist church in Civil Bend, Missouri as a young girl. In 1966, she and her husband joined the First Christian church of Adel, Iowa.
She was a member of the Earlham Garden Club, and the Eastern Star of Earlham, and served faithfully in many church activities throughout her life.
Lana has been fighting a battle against cancer since 1965, and has shown remarkable courage during this time. She became ill upon returning from the winter in Florida, and has been hospitalized eight weeks.
Surviving her are her husband, her two daughters and two sons, twelve grandchildren, two sisters and five brothers.
