Edward Riser was born at Clermont, Iowa, Feb. 9, 1878, where he resided with his parents until seven years ago, when they moved to Earlham. On Feb. 15, 1905, he was married to Ella May Chase of Winterset. To this union one child was born.

He had been a great sufferer with inflammatory rheumatism. He made a heroic struggle to overcome its ravages, but all in vain. It is hard to understand life’s mysteries; why one in life’s glad forenoon, so filled with promise and hope, is called to pass beneath the rod; God knows, we don’t. With him the struggle was over Tuesday afternoon Aug. 31, 1909, when the spirit took its flight.

He leaves to mourn his loss a wife and child, father, mother, two brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the M. E. church, conducted by Rev. A. G. Sprague. Interment was in Earlham cemetery.

The kindly sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved families.
