St. Charles: On Sunday morning at near four o’clock, the soul of Mr. J. A. Cheek took its flight from earth and his own (unreadable) and suffering body was released from a world of suffering. He was the victim of sarconia, a cancerous growth involving brain and other organs of the head, probably the result of a long standing case of catarrh. His suffering was intolerable, but his patience was remarkable.

He was a most exemplary, intelligent and useful young man, just at the time of life and in circumstances making life the most desirable. The immediately bereaved are a few months old baby boy, his aged parents and two young brothers. A host of friends sincerely mourn his untimely death and cruel fate. His burial occurred on Monday afternoon services in the M. E. church conducted by the pastor, Rev. Palmer along the lines of a program prepared by the deceased. The burial was in accordance with the Masonic ritual conducted by Model Lodge of which deceased was an honored member.
