Harry S., the son of Simeon and Bertha Oldham Henkle, was born in Madison County, Iowa on June 8, 1903 and passed away at Cosada Villa Nursing Home in Mesa, Arizona on April 3, 1980. He had been ill with cancer since January of this year.
On August 22, 1922 he was united in marriage to Helen Volz at Stuart, Iowa and two sons were born to this union.
For many years Harry was a farmer and later was associated with Piatt Brothers Elevator Company in Menlo and Dexter for 12 years. He retired 16 years ago and enjoyed traveling with his trailer. Their winters were spent in Florida, Texas and Arizona.
Harry was a member of Jefferson Center United Methodist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, infant son, Edward Junior, and a brother, Jon.
Surviving are his wife, Helen of Indianola, Iowa; son, Gene and granddaughter Cindy, both of Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters, Mabel Piatt and Lois Spencer, both of Dexter, Iowa, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services were held Monday, April 7, 1980 at 2:00 p.m. at Link Funeral Home in Stuart, Iowa. The Rev. George Thurman officiated the service. Barry Williams was organist. Casket bearers were Francis Wagner, Albert Hawthorne, Eugene Kading, Glen Dudley, George Shepherd, Keith McDowall. Interment was at South Oak Grove Cemetery, Stuart, Iowa.
