Edd Wight - Pioneer Resident Is Laid At Rest

Funeral services were held at the Creel (Funeral Home) chapel in Lewistown Monday afternoon for Edd Wight, a prominent stockman and rancher for many years in this section, who passed away at the St. Joseph hospital at Lewistown on Friday. Following the services the remains were laid at rest in the Old Philbrook cemetery west of this city.

The pall bearers were Paul Bradley, John Phillips, Lee Jellison, Walter Phillips, Carl Wight and Claude Philips. The services were attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends to pay their last respect to the memory of the deceased, and a large number also accompanied the casket to the final resting place in Old Philbrook.

Edd Wight was born on June 1, 1871, near Winterset, Madison county, Iowa, and where he spent his boyhood days. In 1884 he came over-land with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Wight, who settled near Utica, Mt. and where he grew to manhood. He was engaged in cattle and horse raising in that section for many years.

In 1898 he was united in marriage to Isabel Nicholson and to this union two sons were born, Thomas and James. Mrs. Wight preceded him to the Great Beyond on February 6, 1902.

Later he and the children moved to Arkansas where he met and married Lulu Clayborn in 1909, and to this union four children were born, Walter, Ruby, Ruth and Carl, all of whom survive him. In 1913 he returned to Montana again and engaged in farming in Carbon county for a number of years until he was forced to retire on account of his health. He spent the last few years of his life living with his children.

The deceased was one of a family of thirteen children, and six survive him; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Tuggle of Pryor, Mt. and Mrs. Judith Duffield of Missouri; four brothers, Ralph of Utica, Mt., Dick of Notus, Idaho, Fred of Joliet, Mt. and Will of San Jose, California.

The deceased still clung to the ways of the true pioneer, quiet and unassuming, a splendid citizen, a kindly man, respected by all who knew him, and leaves, besides the relatives, a host of friends to mourn his passing.
