Mildred Irene Burns was born Nov. 30, 1904. She was the sixth child of the eight children born to John and Susie (Lake) Burns. The family home, where she was born, was near Orient, Iowa, and this is where Mildred grew up. She was a graduate of Orient High School. She taught in several local schools before her marriage to Dale Wambold in 1928. The couple farmed for several years near Dexter, Iowa, where their two children, Keith and Dawn, were born. They moved to a farm near Orient, Iowa, where Dale passed away in 1947. Mildred spent several years in California and Texas. After returning to Iowa, she married Harold Boyd of the Zion community. Harold passed away in January of 1968. Mildred then moved to Winterset, where she had since made her home. When her health permitted, she was active in several organizations.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her seven brothers and sisters; her two children, Keith Wambold and Dawn Hull; and her two husbands.

Surviving her are 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several caring nieces and nephews and her daughter-in-law, Gwen Wambold.

Mildred was a kind and gracious lady who earned many friends throughout her long life. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
