Obituary

Clarence Couch was born in Winterset, on the 28th day of September 1887 (sic), and died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Koehler in Hollywood, a suburb of Los Angeles, Calif., on Saturday, March 5, 1904, aged 25 years, 5 months and 7 days.

Clarence was educated in the public schools of Winterset. A short time after leaving school he commenced his business career in 1897, by accepting a position as clerk in Koser Bro’s store, where he remained for over six consecutive years. During all those years nothing ever occurred to cause even a rupture to the cordial relations that existed between him and employers or associate clerks.

It has been truly said those who are our daily associates know us the best and none will miss Clarence more than those who came in daily contact with him in the discharge of their duties. Clarence was amiable to a marked degree, he readily made friends of those he got acquainted with, and retained them by his affability.

Within the past year his health began to fail, and in hope of improving it, he left home for Los Angeles, Cal., on Nov. 10, 1903. At first he seemed to improve, but he began to grow weaker. When it became apparent that he must have special care, he was taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Koehler where every attention was given to him that kind, and loving hearts and hands could do for him.

Daily letters and telegrams were received from Mr. and Mrs. Koehler, keeping his parents and friends informed of his condition. And it is a blessed relief to them to know that Clarence received such care and attention from Mr. Koehler and family as though he had been their own son and brother.

His father, mother and two brothers, Walla and Fred, are left to mourn the loss of a dutiful son and loving brother. Why one so young should be called beyond when life's joys and prospects are the brightest; we know not. But we shall know hereafter, and with the blessed assurance that “He doth all things well.” We sorrow not as those without hope.
