J. D. Love

J. D. Love, one of the early settlers of Grand River township, died at his home in Macksburg on Monday, the 19th. His funeral and burial was held on Wednesday. Short services were conducted at the home by Rev. G. W. Smith, of the Baptist church and the services at the Kivett cemetery were conducted by the Masonic order with which the deceased had affiliated for more than thirty-one years.

He was born in North Carolina, July 13, 1828, was married to Phebe Jones October 6, 1860, and came to Iowa in 1862.

He was a man of strong character, honorable in his business relations and was a prominent factor in the development of the community in which he lived.

He is survived by the wife, one son and three daughters.

Death of Macksburg's Leading Citizen, Old Pioneer Succumbs to Stomach Trouble

John D. Love, one of the oldest and most influential citizens of Macksburg, and former merchant, died at his home in that town Monday, Nov. 16, 1906 . The funeral occurred Wednesday, the Masonic society of Winterset, of which he was a member, having charge of the funeral services.

John Love was one of the most influential men in the county. He numbered among his friends nearly every old citizen, was a man of strict integrity of high ideals, of old fashioned honesty. In the community in which he lived and with those whose prosperity he was closely identified, he numbered everyone his friend.

Ten or twelve years ago Mr. Love was afflicted with stomach trouble which finally terminated in his death. He has been an invalid for the past five years and his death has been expected at any time during the past year.
