MERLINE NICHOLS, Winterset

Merline G. Nichols, 85, of Winterset died Nov. 15, 2008, at Winterset Care Center South.

Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Nov. 19) at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Winterset Care Center South Activity Fund.

Merline Nichols was born Dec. 13, 1922, in Des Moines to Merle J. and Alma G. (Pasi) Underwood. She attended Lincoln High School and later married Roy E. Nichols in Missouri. For many years, Merline was a minister for the Church of God of Prophesy, pasturing in Beloit, Wis., Missouri Valley and Winterset. She was instrumental in reviving a congregation in Davenport and organizing churches in Ottumwa and Des Moines. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Church of God in Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, Floyd V., Carolyn, Dwayne M., and Harold L. Underwood.

She is survived by two daughters, Marlene Bortz of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Mary Faith Reames of Winterset; one son, David E. Nichols Sr. of Louisville, Ky.; a sister, Eleanor Clemens of Gardner, Kan.; and six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
