MARJORIE MAE SPEEDLING, Earlham

Marjorie Speedling, age 91 died at Community Care Center November 1, 2008.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday November 5, 2008 at Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham, where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Camby Cemetery in rural Adair Co.

Marjorie is survived by her son Gary Speedling (Sandy) of Earlham; five sisters Opal Brink of Omaha; Mildred LeMar (Joe) of Stuart; Louise Kading (Earl) of Surprise, AZ; Ruby Hodge (Harley) of Des Moines; Esther Lister of Adel, son-in-law Larry Taylor of Omaha; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Marjorie Mae Speedling, 91, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008 at the Community Care Center in Stuart.

Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008 at Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham with Pastor Dean Porter officiating. Special music included “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged Cross.”

Bearers were Brian Speedling, Steven Speedling, Mike Taylor, Scott Taylor, David Smith, and Roger McGee.

Interment was in Canby Cemetery, rural Adair.

Marjorie was born the third daughter of George R. and Myrtle (Hall) Stanley on Sept. 8, 1917 in Madison County, south of Dexter.

Marjorie grew up a Stanley farm girl and attended mostly rural schools. She learned to work early in life, and helped out in many homes in the area.

On Oct. 15, 1936, she and Ralph Speedling were united in marriage in Greenfield. This union was blessed with two children, Caryl L. and Gary E.

Marjorie and Ralph farmed in Adair and Guthrie counties near Casey. Due to health reasons in 1972 they retired to a home in Casey. After celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, Ralph died in 1986. Marjorie worked for 10 years at Mary’s Café in Casey as a cook. She was well known for her homemade noodles and her homemade pies. A few years later Marjorie moved to Dexter, where she lived until she moved to the Community Care Center in Stuart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Myrtle Stanley, her husband, Ralph, a daughter, Caryl Taylor, a sister, Mary Stanley, and two brothers, Gerald Stanley and Gene “Pete” Stanley.

Survivors include a son, Gary Speedling and wife Sandy of Earlham, five sisters, Opal Brink of Omaha, Neb., Mildred LeMar and husband Joe of Stuart, Louise Kading and husband Earl of Surprise, Ariz., Ruby Hodges and husband Harley of Des Moines and Esther Lister of Adel, a son-in-law, Larry Taylor of Omaha, Neb., six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter, Earlham, and Redfield was in charge of arrangements.
