Mrs. Chloe Blighton

Mrs. Chloe Blighton, widow of Williard Blighton, was born in the state of New York on Aug. 22, 1835, and departed this life on Nov. 17, 1920, her age being 85 years, 2 months and 25 days.

She came to this state when 20 years of age, and has resided in the state ever since.

On Aug. 15, 1857, she was united in marriage to Williard Blighton, to which union eight children were born, all of whom are living at this time. Their names and residences are as follows: H. M. Blighton, Airshire, Ia.; Mrs. Clara Hendricks, Winterset; Cynthia Mobley, Valley Junction, Ia; Amy Stanley, Montana; Mrs. Lydia Franklin, Western, Neb.; Mrs. Minnie Varley, Alliance, Neb.; Fred Blighton, Adams, Wis.; and Mrs. Grace Scranton, Plainview, Neb.

Her two sisters and one brother have preceded her in death, the brother having died when 12 years of age. Her husband also preceded her, nine years ago last August. He died at home of his daughter, Mrs. Mobley.

There has never been a time in her life, since she became old enough to unite with the church, when she was not connected with some church. Her last affillation was with the Adventist church, having taken fellowship with that denomination about ten years ago.

The death of a Christian mother and friend comes always with a pang of sorrow, a sorrow that we can not escape. In fact, death always comes with a strange new message, and however often we stand in its presence it is never the same in spirit and sentiment. There is something about it that awes us, and makes us feel a sense of loneliness and sorrow that is different than before. Especially is this true when death knocks at our own door, and insists on taking from us our own loved ones. And, strange as this may seem, we never expect our own to go next. It is a habit we have of expecting others to go first. We scarcely think that it is going to come so near us. But death is no respecter of persons. When it summons we must answer, it makes no difference who we are or where we may be, and in death we are all equal.

The funeral services were conducted by Dr. N. C. Carpenter of the Winterset Church of Christ, and the body placed to rest in the Valley Junction cemetery.
