Earlham Echo – January 15, 1970

Obituary

Gerald Cook, son of Will and Emma Cook, was born in Earlham on June 21, 1904 and passed away suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Sanger, California at the age of 65 years, 6 months and 16 days.

His early life was spent in the Earlham community where he attended school, graduating from the Earlham High School in 1923.

After graduation he worked on a farm and a few years later went to California where for 21 years he served as streetcar motorman in Los Angeles. He was retired from the streetcar company and hired by McCulloch Motors in 1952 where he worked faithfully for 17 years.

He was married to Alma Borman October 3, 1929 and they established a home in southwest Los Angeles. They bought an acreage at Sanger, California after his retirement and had just completed a lovely new house and moved there but were permitted to enjoy it for only a few months.

Gerald was a birthright member of the Friends church, a good neighbor, sympathetic and generous in Spirit, an honest and upright citizen and will be greatly missed by loved ones and friends.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Alma, three brothers, Walter and Bernard of Earlham, Roland of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and one sister, Mrs. Mabel Mowell, of Whittier, California, many nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends.

Services were conducted by Rev. Kenneth Santee of Bear Creek and Rev. John Baxter of Earlham. Music was provided by Doris Cook at the piano and Berneita Patience, soloist. The church floral committee cared for the flowers.

Casket bearers were Wayne Cook, Otha Cook, Robert Cook, Weldon Cook, Willard Barnett and Clyde Barnett. Interment was in the Bear Creek cemetery. Evans Service made the funeral arrangements.
