Services Held for Cora Fastle

Cora May Fastle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Hunter, was born November 28, 1880 in Madison County, Iowa. She passed away January 3, 1970 at Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines after a three month illness.

Cora grew up in Madison county and graduated from the Earlham Academy.

On December 5, 1906 she was united in marriage to Harry V. Fastle and they made their home on a farm west of Winterset. They settled later on a farm near Earlham where they lived until 1942, moving to Earlham where Mr. Fastle’s health failed. There was one son, Donald Fred, born to this union.

Cora was a long-time member of the Earlham United Methodist church and was active in many phases of the church’s life. She taught church school for many years and was teaching a class this year up to the time of her illness. She was active in the Women’s Society of Christian Service, served on the Administrative Board, and on other committees also. She was a member of the WCTU.

She loved her home and her church and devoted her life to her family and her faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her son.

She is survived by one grandson, Wayne D. Fastle of Earlham; two great granddaughters, Suzanne and Jeanette Fastle; one sister, Mrs. Nelle Silzer of Peoria, Illinois; three brothers, Harry E. Hunter of Des Moines, Ralph B. and Fred R. Hunter of Earlham; and by other relatives and friends.

Last rites were conducted by Rev. Ward Young in the Earlham United Methodist church on Monday, January 5, at 1:30 p.m. Music was provided by Dolores Summy at the organ. The church floral committee cared for the flowers.

Casket bearers were Jim Welch, Robert Branam, Carroll Wigton, Ivan Russell, Phillip Duff and Lyman Oaks. Honorary casket bearers were Leonard Welch, Les Goeldner, Earl Schalkle, Mervyn McLennan and John Moreland. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery. Evans Service made the funeral arrangements.
