Services for Marie N. Carey, 87, St. Charles who died Nov. 4 at St. Benedict’s Hospital in Ogden, Utah, were held Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Clarence Lautt officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.
Born May 12, 1899 in Madison County, she was the daughter of William and Lurie McDonald Leach. She was a homemaker, a lifetime resident of Madison County and a member of the Patterson United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Prairie Hoosier Club, Sixty Plus Club, and the World War I Veterans Auxiliary, and the WSCS.
On Aug. 8, 1920, she was married to Edgar H. Carey in Winterset.
Survivors include sons, Paul of Ogden and Ray of Des Moines; daughters, Emma Matuna and Wanda Johnson, both of Tucson, Ariz.; sisters, Aletha Bussanmus of Bevington, Wilda McManus and Fern Miller, both of Des Moines; Alberta Sousley of Palm Desert, Calif.; and Georgia Cumings of Winterset; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a son, a brother, four sisters and two grandchildren.

ST. CHARLES, IA. – Marie N. Carey, 87, of St. Charles died of a heart ailment Tuesday in Ogden, Utah. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with burial at Winterset Cemetery.
Mrs. Carey was born in Madison County and was a homemaker and a member of Patterson Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Emma Matuna and Wanda Johnson, both of Tucson, Ariz.; two sons, Paul of Ogden, Utah, and Ray of Des Moines; five sisters, Aletha Bussanmus of Bevington, Wilda McManus and Fern Miller, both of Des Moines, Alberta Sousley of Palm Desert, Calif., and Georgia Cumings of Winterset; 15 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
