Obituary

James L. Couch, oldest of six children, was born to William and Rebecca Rednour Couch on May 5, 1874, in Greene County, Tennessee and passed away at the Wilden hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, on November 16, 1964, at the age of 90 years, 6 months and 11 days.

On December 25, 1898, he was united in marriage with Clara Mariah Gibson of Persia, Tennessee. To this union were born four children, Mrs. Ethel Welch of Earlham, Clarence of Des Moines, Larry Earl of Earlham, and Raymond of Hobbs, New Mexico.

In 1907 the family moved to Iowa, settling in Marion county where he spent many years in farming, later going into the dairy business at Des Moines where he spent several years.

In 1947 he and his wife moved to Madera, California where he made his home until a couple of years ago. The wife and mother passed away in 1960.

In October of 1963, he came to make his home with his daughter until a stroke came upon him last May at which time he was hospitalized and later removed to a nursing home where he remained until he suffered a broken hip three weeks ago.

While yet a young man he became a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church, later transferring to the Methodist church of which he was still a member at the time of his death.

He leaves to mourn his passing his four children, ten grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew.

The funeral service was held at the Evans Funeral Home in Earlham, on Wednesday afternoon, November 18, at 2:00 o’clock. Mrs. Leo Conrad was organist. L. Willard Reynolds, pastor of the Earlham Friends church, conducted the service. Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
