Death of Thos. Kephart

Thos. Kephart, a long time resident of Winterset, died on Tuesday evening after a short illness which was terminated by the advanced age of the decedent and the excessively warm weather.

Funeral services were held today and burial at the Trester cemetery on North Branch.

Thomas Kephart was born near Louisville, Ky Aug. 12, 1826 and died in Winterset, Iowa July 11, 1911, age 81 years, 10 months and 28 days. On Feb. 25, 1849, he was married to Rebecca A. Rogers, who died July 26, 1872. To this union were born three daughters and four sons, the surviving ones are Daniel of Lone Tree, Mo., William of Alberta, Canada, Mrs. Eliza Stickler of Winterset, Mrs. Sara Skates of Davenport and Samuel C. of Brown county, Indiana. On Nov. 20, 1872 he was married to Sarah A. Smith, who died July 10, 1874, to this union was born one son Thomas of Peru.

Mr. Kephart enlisted in the Civil War in Co G., 12th Indiana Infantry. Came to Iowa in October 1862, locating in Madison county. Religiously, his views were with the Baptist people. He was made a Mason in Indiana at the close of the Civil War. He was honest and upright in his dealings, a good citizen and a good friend.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. L. F. Davis from the home of Mrs. Stickler and burial in the Trester cemetery. The G. A. R. conducted their burial services at the cemetery.
