Mrs. Walter Young Dies in a Des Moines Hospital Sunday Morning
Mrs. Walter Young, who was taken to Mercy hospital in Des Moines last week, died Sunday morning. The body was brought to Winterset Monday morning and the funeral occurred Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Atwood officiated.
Mrs. Young’s death was caused by the lodgement of a small chicken bone in her throat. Blood poisoning set in after the bone was dislodged. The efforts of the physicians were unavailing, and after several weeks of intense suffering, death resulted.
Mrs. Young was married February 18, 1875; she had five children, two of whom died in infancy; the three remaining daughters live in or near Winterset.
Mrs. Young’s social of friends was as large as her circle of acquaintances, for hers was a sweet, kindly nature that made, and better still, kept her friends. In short, she was a noble example of true womanhood.

Passes Away at Mercy Hospital on Sunday. Death Caused by Bone in Throat
Mrs. Walter Young died at ten o’clock a.m. on Sunday at Mercy hospital in Des Moines. About eight weeks ago a small piece of chicken bone lodged in Mrs. Young’s throat while eating. She suffered constantly and after failing to obtain relief, went to Des Moines and secured the services of a specialist. About this time, the bone was dislodged from the throat in a spell of coughing. After this, her condition improved for a while, but later she took a turn for the worse and on Thursday of last week went to Des Moines with the intention of submitting to an operation. Her condition, however, was so weakened that an operation was not advisable and she passed away on Sunday, as above stated.
Funeral services were held from the home on Tuesday afternoon and burial in the Winterset cemetery. Beside brothers and sisters she is survived by the husband and three daughters, Mrs. John P. White; Mrs. John Cornell and Miss Elsie Young, all residing in this vicinity.

Page 1Death of Mrs. W. S. Young
One of the saddest deaths to touch this community for sometime was that of Mrs. W. S. Young, who died in Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, last Sunday morning, November 21st, where she had been taken for treatment.
About five weeks ago a small chicken bone lodged in her throat. Efforts of the surgeons failed to locate or extract it, but finally in a paroxysm of coughing, the bone was dislodged. The membrane of the throat was lacerated to such an extent that the physicians considered her condition very serious. She was taken to Mercy Hospital Thursday of last week, but nothing could be done for her. Blood poisoning set in and she died Sunday morning.
Rose Wilhelmina Beem was born Sept. 28th, 1866. She was one of a family of nine children, who were born and raised in Madison county. Four brothers and three sisters are living to mourn the loss of a loving sister. She was a dutiful daughter and ministered patiently and faithfully, to both her father and mother in their last sickness, both of whom died recently and were carried from her home, to their last resting place.
She was married to Walter S. Young, Feb. 18th, 1885. Five children were born to this union, two of whom died in infancy. Their three remaining daughters, she lived to see grow into womanhood, and to enjoy their companionship, together with that of two bright, happy grandchildren. These daughters and her loving husband ministered to her in her last illness, and did all that human hands and loving hearts could do to alleviate her sufferings.
